Read Psalm 111 at Bible Gateway.
The works of His hands are verity and justice; all His precepts are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. Psa 111:7-8
Word studies! “All” means, “the whole amount, quantity, or extent of; every member or individual component; the whole number or sum of,” according to Webster’s. Precepts, or commandments, we learned, were the Ten Commandments, and additionally, all the precepts in Torah which explain the Ten Commandments. “Sure” means “firmly established and steadfast; reliable, trustworthy; having no doubt or uncertainty,” from Webster’s. Strong’s Hebrew dictionary says of “sure”: “to build up or support; to foster as a parent or nurse; figuratively to render (or be) firm or faithful, to trust or believe, to be permanent or quiet; morally to be true or certain.”
In other words, when the word of God says “All His commandments are sure,” it is really saying that the whole of God’s commandments are able to build us up and support us; meditating on them and doing them enables us to be fostered and nourished, as a parent or a (wet) nurse forsters and nourishes a child — they are our spiritual food, they cause us to grow thereby. They are absolutely true in a world where morality is relative. They render the one who walks in them firm. On Christ (the Word made Flesh) the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. That kind of firm.
God’s commandments stand fast – other versions say, “are upheld.” Think about these words. To be upheld is to be held in an upright position. Webster’s says, especially against an opponent. To stand is to be upright upon your feet. To stand fast is to remain upright even in the face of opposition or enemies who are trying to knock you down or push you back. But God not only upholds His commandments, He does so forever and ever. He does so for a limitless time, at all times, continually.
Now perhaps you can see why the doctrine which says the commandments of God have passed away is not a doctrine derived from Scripture, or from a correct understanding of Scripture!
