Rev 8:7-9:21 chiastic structure
1a) Rev 8:7-12, First four angels sounded trumpets/ one third of earth, sea, rivers, light struck;
1b) Rev 8:13, Woe, woe, woe, because of the three trumpets yet to sound;
1c) Rev 9:1-2, Fifth trumpet sounded: key to the abyss given to the fallen star/ smoke darkened the air;
1d) Rev 9:3-6, Locusts with power as scorpions, not to kill but to torment for five months;
1e) Rev 9:7a, The shapes of the locusts were like horses prepared for war;
central axis) Rev 9:7b-9a, On their heads were something like golden crowns, and their faces were like people’s faces. They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like those of lions. They had breastplates, like breastplates of iron;
2e) Rev 9:9b, The sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to war;
2d) Rev 9:10, Tails + stings as scorpions, to harm men for five months;
2c) Rev 9:11, Their king is the angel of the abyss/ his name in Hebrew: Abaddon, Greek: Apollyon;
2b) Rev 9:12, The first woe is past/ there are still two woes coming after this;
2a) Rev 9:13-21, The sixth trumpet: four angels freed/ one third of mankind killed;
1a) Rev 9:13-15, Sixth trumpet sounded: four angels bound at Euphrates freed to kill one third of mankind;
1b) Rev 9:16-17a, Number of the horsemen / appearance of the horses + their riders;
1c) Rev 9:17b, Out of their mouths proceed fire, smoke, and sulfur;
central axis) Rev 9:18a, By these three plagues were one third of mankind killed;
2c) Rev 9:18b, By the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur, which proceeded out of their mouths;
2b) Rev 9:19, Power of the horses in their mouths + tails, like serpents, which harm;
2a) Rev 9:20-21, The rest of mankind not killed with these plagues, did not repent.
