Genesis 21, The promised son realized

The promised son bookends scream “Messianic!” But then the central axis of destruction seems to deviate away from the Gospel. But does it? The central axis of the central axis is “Escape for your life!” (Gen 19:17). Lot believed and fled, and was saved from destruction. His sons-in-law scoffed and did not flee, and perished with the wicked. But this is the Gospel.
Why This Matters: We have all sinned and deserve the death penalty for our sins. But in Messiah Yeshua, God has extended grace toward us and given us an avenue of escape. The ball is now in our court. Do we believe Him, and act? Abraham believed, Lot acted, and God counted it as righteousness (Gen 15:6).
And how interesting it is to me, that the Promised Son Realized is the Torah theme for this day, as we look for the new moon of the seventh month, the sign that our long-expected Yeshua is coming to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.

In the first half of the structure, the picture is painted of the kingdoms of the world—that which was at one time inhabited, prosperous, mighty—becoming a desert and wasteland, a habitation for jackals and wild beasts, inhabited no more forever. In the second half of the structure, the picture is painted of Zion, which was at one time a desert and wasteland, a habitation for jackals, becoming a lush and green land of rivers and pools, to which the ransomed of YHVH return with joy and singing. These chapters are describing the transfer of kingdoms proclaimed in Revelation:
Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” Rev 11:15

The dilemma of the prosperity of the wicked, is such a dilemma that it caused the psalmist pain (vs. 16). He couldn’t explain it to the generation of God’s children (vs. 15). It is such a dilemma because the Torah promises blessings for the obedient and curses for the disobedient (Deu 28). But the psalmist rightly observes that it is the wicked who seem to inherit every blessing, and the righteous who are plagued and chastened every morning.
But the end of the wicked is destruction, while the end of the righteous is glory. In the mean time, let us draw near to God for our good, and put our trust in YHVH our God!
