The Rainbow Family has been having their annual gathering in Colorado this year, and it just ended this past weekend. There were approximately 15,000 campers covering an area of four square miles in the beautiful Routt National Forest. This is why the Forest Service requires special use licenses for groups over 75 (which prompted the Rainbow campers first wave of violence): that many people is bound to leave an impact. The Forest Service has its own page of news concerning the Rainbow gathering this year. The local paper describes the damage done to the forest, and what it will take to restore the area to its former state.
