The Psalms/ Proverbs reading is in Psalm 56.
The Greek Testament reading Mark 12.
Essential Studies.
Exodus 19, Hebrew Root Words (Additional studies: Exodus Index)
The parable being told by the Hebrew Root Word is of protecting (sin) that which has been gathered (gimel) and bound together (as a yoke, signified by the staff, lamed, binds a pair of oxen together). Thus “to shut up” would be the same idea as putting valuables in a safe or a vault. To YHVH, we are a segullah, a special treasure, above all the peoples on the face of the earth. If we keep Him, i.e., if we keep His covenant, then He keeps us. ♥
Psalm 56, Chiastic Structure (Additional studies: Psalms Book Two (42-72) Index)
In the 2B.1 chiastic structure, the idea is that as the thoughts of the wicked are against the righteous for evil, the thoughts of God are for the righteous for good (Jer 29:11). As the wicked mark the steps of the righteous to lie in wait for him to trip him up, God marks the wanderings and tears of the righteous, to wait for him to bless him. In a contest between the wicked and God, whose plans and purposes are going to win out? This is why David has confidence to say, “I will trust in You, I will not be afraid,” even though we will experience temporary tribulation in this world because of sinfulness.
Mark 12, The Currency of the Kingdom (Additional studies: Mark Index)
For those of us who are Abraham’s children, it is all about how we can be a blessing today (Gen 12:2). What can we give today? We have a rich Daddy, who is rich in mercy and who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Eph 2:4, Psa 50:10), so we can afford to be generous, LOL. It means more than giving money, although money sure plays an important part, because our hearts can be tied to it. But also, time, food, labor, talents, mercy, forgiveness, listening, respect, as well as money–these things are the currency of the Kingdom. Let our Vinedresser receive His fruit when He sends someone to us to collect it (Luk 20:9-16, Gal 5:22-23)!
