Heb 9:1-28 Chiastic Structure:
The summary of this chapter:
The ark of the covenant, particularly the mercy seat, represented the presence of Almighty God on this earth. His glorious presence was veiled off even from the priests performing the daily service pertaining to Him, much less the people. And should even the high priest transgress His presence according to the ordinances, he would die. Access to the presence of Almighty God was not yet made available while the earthly tabernacle was still standing.
However, the 6-inch thick veil of the temple separating the Holy Place, from the Holy of Holies, was torn in two from top to bottom at the death of Yeshua (Mat 27:51).
The ordinances of the tabernacle service are concerned with food and drink and various washings, in other words, ordinances which pertain to the body and not the heart. But Yeshua our High Priest, bearing the offering of His own blood, once for all, purifies hearts, while the earthly priests, with the blood of bulls and goats, merely purified the flesh.
The new covenant is the culmination of all the covenants, which all combined are like the last will and testament, providing an inheritance to the children upon its enactment.
The Romans destroyed the Temple in 70 AD, roughly 40 years following the crucifixion of Yeshua, and from that day to this, no animal sacrifices, the blood of bulls and goats, have been offered according to the Law. It is because Yeshua offered Himself once for all, and no other sacrifices are now necessary.
