Essential Studies.
2 Samuel 9, David foreshadowing Messiah’s lovingkindness (Additional studies: 1 and 2 Samuel Index)
The kindness that David showed to Saul’s house, in Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth, is the Hebrew word Strong’s H2617 חסד chesed, the abstract concept of “mercy.” The parable being told by the Hebrew Root Word is of the wall (chet) of protection (sin) behind which one allows others to shelter when the door (dalet) is opened. The exact same word is found throughout the Bible when speaking of God’s love and mercy toward His people (e.g., Isa 54:10). David knew and experienced God’s lovingkindness himself, and therefore he could extend the same to others.
Proverbs 15, The causes of a broken spirit (Additional studies: Proverbs Index)
