Essential Studies.
Jeremiah 1 and 2, Our good God
Additional studies: Jeremiah Index (coming)
He is good – advantageous, favorable, pleasant, agreeable, suitable. His Law is good – He gave it to us so that we would know how to walk profitably (Deu 5:29-33; Pro 4:2; Rom 7:12). Not to profit Him, but to profit us. His gifts are good, which include our calling, our giftings, our spouses, our children, our families, our station in life.
Psalm 97, The authoritative Word
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Four: Psalms 90-106 Index
If righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne, and if a fire goes before Him to burn up His enemies round about, then when God judges sin and wickedness, it is an act of righteousness and justice. If that makes us squeamish, we must set our minds to be in agreement with the truth the Word of God is speaking. God’s ways are not man’s ways, nor His thoughts our thoughts. His are higher, righter, and juster than ours. We make God’s Word authoritative in our hearts and minds, aligning ourselves with Him; we do not judge Him for not being like us.
2 Timothy 3, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: 1 & 2 Timothy Index
It is amazing to me that slander is the central axis of the embedded chiastic structure describing the ungodly and evil men of the last days. Slander is maligning the character or reputation of another. Webster’s says slander is the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage another’s reputation. One of the Ten Commandments is, Do not bear false witness, right up there with not stealing and not murdering.
