First, there is a translation correction for Isa 52:8. The Hebrew grammar says that they see YHVH – yes, the tetragrammaton – returning to Zion, not that YHVH brings Zion back as some English Bibles have it. The Hebrew idiom “eye to eye” means the watchmen see YHVH’s return with vivid, personal clarity, as if standing face-to-face.

In this psalm which celebrates the end of the Lord’s wrath, and the coming of His forgiveness, mercy, and salvation, isn’t it interesting that mercy and truth have met together, and righteousness and peace have kissed? We tend to think of mercy, grace, forgiveness, and peace with God through Jesus Christ the opposite of righteousness and the truth of God’s Word (expressed in His Law and His commandments). But in Scripture, mercy and truth are sisters, not enemies. The fruit of mercy wholly and truly received, is in fact righteousness! For He will speak peace to His people, but let them not turn back to folly, foolishness, or sin … for His mercy is never a license to sin, but deliverance from its bondage! ♥

When you hear an accusatory condemnation in your heart or mind, remember whose voice you are hearing. It isn’t God’s. When I hear that accusatory voice, this is what I do. I say, outloud,
“I refuse to receive or believe that thought in my heart or mind. I reject that thought, and I reject the father of that thought. Depart from me, in the name of Yeshua!”
And he will depart (if not immediately, repeat, until he and his lying and accusatory thoughts depart).
