ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Numbers 9, And keeping the charge of YHVH
Additional studies: Numbers Index
It is the desire of every church in the world, of every believer, to be visited by the presence and glory of YHVH. In His presence is fullness of joy (Psa 16:11)! The place of His presence is the place of His power, for healing, deliverance, setting free, breakthrough and victory! Why then, I ask, is this mention of the cloud the central axis of this puzzling strong theme that appears to not go together? The cloud descending is bounded by keeping the charge of YHVH.
Num 9:9-23 Strong theme: The presence and glory of YHVH is bounded by keeping the command and charge of YHVH.
1 Chronicles 10, The mighty men of valor
Additional studies: 1 and 2 Chronicles Index
Valiant is from Strong’s H2342 חול chuwl (chet + vav + lamed). The Hebrew Root Word parable is that as a wall (chet) secures (vav) authority (lamed), so strength, ability, valor, and virtue are as a firm wall securing the man. Cognate words are wall, but also writhe, dance from its association with the bow drill. A bow drill was used in ancient days to bore a hole. The bow string wrapped around (chet, fenced) the drill shaft (lamed) and by twirling the string, the shaft bored the hole. When an army is faced with a wall, as in a walled city, or a man is faced with a giant, who is as a wall, an obstacle to overcome, it is valor that enables him to concentrate power or resources to bore a hole into that wall, and make a breach.
Proverbs 6, On adultery
Additional studies: Proverbs Index
Continuing in any sin by dismissing God’s commandments leads to destruction, but Proverbs focuses on the one commandment, Do not commit adultery. It is because every sin presents itself as the siren call of the seductress, “Come in here! Stolen water is sweet.” When we learn to regard the inevitable bitterness of sin down the road more than the immediate sweetness of sin in the moment, and turn our feet away from the foolish path, then we have matured in wisdom.
