ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Hosea 1, God’s redemptive power
Additional studies: Hosea Index
The names of Hosea’s children pronounce God’s heartbreak and rejection over Israel’s unfaithfulness and betrayal. However, what began as scattering (Jezreel, God sows His people among the nations) becomes glorious sowing for multiplication—like the sand on the seashore! “No mercy” (Lo-ruhamah) is reversed into overflowing compassion. “Not My people” (Lo-ammi) is transformed into the joyful cry, “You are sons of the living God!” fully restored under the kingship of Messiah Yeshua. Whatever curse was spoken over our lives, the moment we whisper, “Redeem even me, beloved Savior,” He pours out His positive opposite blessing and calling over us!
Psalm 36, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Psalms Book One: 1-41 Index
Flattery is smooth speech, in other words, that which doesn’t ruffle any feathers or create waves. But the fact is that we humans will always need correcting in something or another (Pro 6:23). God’s righteous judgments do ruffle feathers and do create waves. But they are a great deep of wisdom; they are a fountain of life and light. By them, He preserves us; by them, He gathers us for refuge under the shadow of His wings. When we only listen to that which exalts ourselves, then we are giving pride a foothold. The only One we should be exalting on high, is YHVH.
Acts 11, Gentiles Enter the Faith
Additional studies: Acts Index
The central axis highlights the fact that the Gentiles also received the word of God and the Spirit of God, a pivotal event in the history of the church, of which the prophets of old prophesied. This was not done at the instigation of the apostles or the believers, but at the instigation of the Spirit of God, for the believers could not conceive of it, and many things had to happen to convince the believers (who loved the Lord and His word!) that these events, which centered around bringing the lost to faith in Messiah Yeshua, were indeed of God.
So believers, who love the Lord and His word, let us not be quick to trash a new move of the Spirit centered around bringing the lost to faith in Messiah Yeshua, for from the beginning this has been His work!
