So the everlasting covenant makes Abraham the father of many nations. Land is promised. But the circumcision part makes me confused.
Paul said that wasn’t required anymore.
So what happens to the rest of the covenant and how do we discern what is everlasting?
The covenant is that Abaraham’s seed would take YHVH for their God, and God would take Abraham’s seed for His people. Circumcision is the sign of the covenant. It’s the identifying mark. Think of it like a wedding ring. A man and a woman make a covenant to each other when they exchange their wedding vows. The vows are the covenant. The ring is merely the sign, the identifying mark, that the covenant exists, and that the wearer is bound by it.
Now, the circumcision of the flesh is an example of the Natural Pictures Teaching Tool. It’s a foreshadow which prophesies of a spiritual truth: the circumcision of the heart. A heart which has been circumcised to love God and take Him for their God, rejecting all other gods, is a heart which has had its fleshly nature cut away. The circumcised heart is the sign of the covenant, the identifying mark.
Understand that there is nothing wrong with circumcision – many of the laws of Torah carry health benefits on this side of heaven.
