Psalm 52:1-9 Chiastic structure:
This psalm makes a Comparison and Contrast between the wicked with an evil tongue, and the righteous with an edifying tongue. The wickedness of the wicked, in this case, is in his evil speaking: he boasts, speaks lies and falsehoods, razor-sharp words that devour (another’s joy, or confidence, or hope). He seems to grow in might, trusting in his own riches instead of in God, but God will uproot him, no matter how deeply he attempts to sink his roots.
The righteousness of the righteous, on the other hand, is in his edifying tongue. Praise, thanksgiving, and gratitude pours out of his mouth in the assembly of the faithful. His trust is in the steadfast love of God, deeply planted in the house of God (not a dwelling of his own making) withstanding all the barbs the wicked launch his way.
