The Chiastic structure:
Scripture, in Mat 12:18-21, declares that Yeshua is “My Servant” of whom Isaiah prophesied. But what is the meaning of a bruised reed and a smoking wick?
A plant, when its leaf becomes bruised, crushed, creased, or torn, cannot repair itself as animals and people can. The bruised or creased leaf or stem just hangs from the plant, disfiguring it. So it is, that we break off the damaged part of the plant, to remove its unsightly nature.
Likewise, when a candle is extinguished incompletely, the flame no longer gives its light, and the wick begins smoking with an acrid-smelling smoke that fills the room and stings the eyes. So it is, we quench the wick completely to stop it from smoking an unpleasant smoke.
But not so Yeshua. When someone has become bruised or broken, He does not cast us off. He does not quench what little spark we have left. He gently loves us back to wholeness.
How do I know? I was once a smoking wick myself. ♥
