ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
2 Samuel 15 and 16, When fathers provoke their children to wrath
Additional studies: 1 and 2 Samuel Index
The first heart that was stolen was Absalom’s. David lost his son’s heart. Absalom lost his love and his loyalty for his father, long before he incited the men of Israel against him. God has designed children so that their hearts are knit to their parents’ hearts, so that parents can bring their children up in the nurture and admonition of YHVH with success. Obedience flows out of love (Joh 14:15). When there is love lost between a parent and a child, the parent initiates that loss. Children never initiate that loss, because it is so devastatingly painful for a child to lose the love of their parent.
Proverbs 14, The wise woman who builds her house
Additional studies: Proverbs Index
Pro 14:1 teaches us the power that a woman has within her household–because it is not the physical dwelling that she is building; it is her family, the members of her household. God gave the husband the outward power over his family. To the woman, however, He gave the inward power. By that I mean, she has the ability to produce in her family the outcome of blessing and of the peace, harmony, and love that she desires. She exercises that power by building her house(hold). The Hebrew word for “builds” is the same (via the Greek Septuagint translation) as the Greek “edify” in the New Testament. So the wise woman builds her house, when she edifies her family in the biblical way.
