But notice, that YHVH had ordained to defeat the good (strategically speaking) counsel of Ahithophel, in order to bring evil upon Absalom. Of course YHVH does not desire to bring evil upon anyone. But once you set yourself on the path of evil-doing, then you open yourself up as a target. YHVH is obligated to bring the wickedness of the wicked to an end, to extend mercy to innocent victims. All throughout Scripture YHVH warns against embarking on the path of evil-doing, so that the end of evil-doers does not come upon them. If we will Learn from the Narrative, we see that YHVH is already taking steps, unbeknownst to David, to reverse the adverse circumstance, and to bring restoration and redemption.

Delight is from Strong’s H7521, רצה ratsah, “to be pleased with, to accept. The Hebrew Root Word parable is of the man (resh) arriving (tsadey, in the sense that a trail has a destination) to the heart (hey) of another. Scripture never stops with that which YHVH abhors, but with that which YHVH delights in. And His delight is in us, if we are the upright!

God is also in the unique position of wanting His children’s persecutors to also come to know Him, to also become His child. The testimony of faith and patience despite suffering witnesses to the unbeliever of the validity of the faith of the persecuted. So God doesn’t recompense the persecutors right away. He leaves room for His children’s witness to work.
