ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Joshua 24, We will serve YHVH
Additional studies: Joshua Index
Why does Joshua say that YHVH will not forgive Israel’s sins (Jos 24:19), when we know that God forgives sins? The sense that I have of this whole discourse, is that Joshua is drawing a clear line between the gods of the Canaanites, and YHVH, the God of Israel. So choose this day whom you will serve, and stick to your choice. If you choose YHVH, then don’t be flippant about it. He is not like the gods of the Canaanites, who could care less what you do or how many gods you serve. He is YHVH, holy, set apart, and jealous of His people’s affections. Be aware of what you are choosing, and choose accordingly.

The gist: If YHVH was capable enough to make heaven and earth, He is quite capable of helping you and me! ♥
Mark 15, The Consecration of the Cross
Additional studies: Mark Index
The passage from Exo 29:20 is from the instruction for the consecration of the priests, to set them apart for service to YHVH. The blood applied to the ear consecrated what he heard: the word of YHVH; truth, not false witness, slander, or a bribe to pervert justice. The blood applied to the thumb consecrated the work of his hands. The blood applied to the toe consecrated the way he walked, how he lived his life; the path he followed. Jesus is the High Priest of our confession, and His crucifixion was His consecration ceremony. The crown of thorns, and the nails in His hands and feet caused His blood to flow over ear, thumb, and toe. God obeys His own Word even down to the tiniest detail. All of Torah is fulfilled in Jesus, who is the substance casting the shadow of Torah.
