ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
2 Chronicles 35, Josiah, king of Judah
Additional studies: 1&2 Chronicles Index
Josiah’s reign was a Prophetic type of Messiah’s reign, and there is something that we as the Church must see. When he made the covenant of grace between God and the people, the idols, wooden images, and booths for ritual prostitution still filled the Temple. When we enter into our covenant with YHVH God, through the blood of Yeshua, God accepts us as we are. Our life might still be filled with uncleanness and abominations, but that does not stop Him from embracing us wholeheartedly. Salvation comes first. We enter into the Father- child relationship with the Creator of heaven and earth! The state of our hearts is made right before Him. This is what the New Testament calls justification — setting us in right standing with God.
But Josiah did not stop with only making the covenant. He then began cleaning the uncleanness, one uncleanness at a time. He not only took away the works of unrighteousness in Judah and Israel when he cleaned the land of idolatry, but he added to Judah and Israel works of righteousness. They started keeping the Passover. This is what the New Testament calls sanctification — out of the right state of our hearts, that we receive by grace through faith, flows right actions, or works of righteousness.
Psalm 96, The good news of His salvation
Additional studies: Psalms Book Four: 90-106 Index
The gospel – the good news of His salvation – did not appear out of thin air with the birth of Jesus Christ, but that there has been one gospel, one good news of YHVH’s salvation from Genesis one In Gen 1, before man or any living thing was created upon the earth, God placed the stars in the heavens to serve as witnesses, it says in Hebrew. To what do they bear witness? The good news of His salvation, for one (The heavens declare the glory of God … Psa 19:1-4) The constellations themselves were taught to Seth by God, and they proclaim the good news of His salvation. The Tree of Life was placed in the garden, which proclaimed the good news of His salvation. Enoch walked with God, and did not die, which proclaimed the good news of His salvation. Noah built an ark, which proclaimed the good news of His salvation. Abram circumcised his son, then offered him on Mount Moriah, which proclaimed the good news of His salvation. The Israelites painted the blood of the Passover Lamb on the doorposts of their houses, which proclaimed the good news of His salvation. In many multiple and diverse ways, God has been proclaiming the good news of His salvation from the foundation of the world. The good news has not changed from then till now. ♥
John 15, Abiding in Him
Additional studies: John Index
The transformed life Jesus is describing is not available to those who merely go through the motions out of a sense of religious obligation. He is talking about people who dwell with Him, who remain with Him, who sit down with Him, and make Him their home. He is not even seeking a Master-Servant relationship, although He does point out more than once, that the one who loves Him, keeps His commandments. He is seeking a bosom friend relationship, a family relationship. His love for us is all-consuming, and He desires that all-consuming love from us back.
