ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Deuteronomy 33 and 34, The Law our Tutor
Additional studies: Deuteronomy Index
Moses told Israel that God would raise up a Prophet like him (Deu 18:15-18), who would hear the Word of God from the mouth of God and teach it, whom YHVH would know face to face, who would walk in all the signs and wonders and mighty power as Moses, and greater than Moses. That Prophet is Messiah Yeshua, the Son of the Living God. It is fitting that Torah concludes with a reminder that we are looking for Him who is to come, for His revelation has been the focus of all Torah (Joh 5:46).
Nahum 1 through 3, And the fall of Nineveh
Additional studies: Nahum Category
There is disagreement among scholars when the prophet Nahum lived, but it seems he may have been contemporary with Isaiah and provided the second part of God’s prophecy concerning Nineveh, begun by Jonah. Jonah prophesied the destruction of Nineveh unless she repent of her ways. Nineveh repented, and the promised destruction was held off. But upon Nineveh’s return to her former wickedness, YHVH again repeated that destruction was coming — this time from which there could be no turning.
Psalm 94, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Psalms Book Four: 90-106 Index
I love this Psalm. In it, we learn that YHVH both instructs and corrects the Gentile nations out of His Torah. If you ever run into the idea that commandment-keeping is for Jews only, or for the land of Israel only, here is your answer. ♥
