Let us not miss, that the central axis of all these chapters having to do with uncleanness, is not the uncleanness, but the atonement! Now, if we accept that all of Torah forms a single chiastic structure, and that Leviticus is its central axis, what is the central axis of Leviticus? ATONEMENT! The central purpose of Torah is not so much to reveal our sin, although that is accomplished, but to reveal our atonement, our at + one + ment, that which brings the two which were formerly separated (God and man), into unity again!

But the command about adultery is not only all about us: the Torah marvelously reveals that preserving the sanctity of the marriage covenant also preserves the sanctity of the next generation, as well as the sanctity of the land. But how do we protect our marriage from our heart? It is by practicing kindness toward our mate, in treating them as we ourselves wish to be treated. It is in realizing the high importance that Torah places on mothers, as the source of the next generation. In fact this kind treatment is the key to preserving our faithfulness to our spouse!

So the psalm, I believe, is prophetic in nature of the Messianic kingdom, when Israel will be united under the kingship of one king, Messiah Yeshua, and Israel’s enemies will be subdued under His authority. Give us help from trouble, Father, for the help of man is useless (as Israel is finding out with her current troubles). For through God Israel will do valiantly, for He Himself will tread down her enemies!
